BEFORE YOU START

Railroad pages without photos or a few photos will be removed within 5 days. This site is for photos. Please wait until you have many photos to load before opening a page.

Thanks for your cooperation and we welcome you to add your photos and page.

Please read our basic requirements

1) Maximum image file size is 100kb.

2) Do not trespass on private property to the point of causing a complaint.

3) You are responsible for the photos you take.

4) GPS coordinates are mostly required as they give a permanent record of where the photo was taken. Hiking handheld Garmin or Magellan or in-car street pilots work great. GPS is not absolutely required to open a page but photos without GPS may not be allowed unless very well documented by other means.

5) You can have your photos added to pages by BackDrop Warehouse if you have a few photos within the area already paged.  Go to HELP for details.

Create your own page with 30 minimum - 150 photos

Arrange photos from a start point to end point along the same track.

IMPORTANT

5) Please start at one location (closest start town) and move in one direction to an end point (closest end town) along the same track.  GPS coordinates (N39+23.834) are not absolutely required but very much appreciated. Do not cross a state line on the same page. Photos are displayed in order by using the sort option on managers desk. Pages with photos that jump around or are not defined where they are, may be removed. Each photo should have text as to what and where it is. Text is displayed in the SLIDE SHOW. Photos of we know not what and know not where are of little value.  A page should have between 30 - 100 photos.

6) If you have GPS, it should be entered on the text line for each photo which shows in the SLIDE SHOW, and should be entered first on the line before the text using example format N39+23.834 W105+10.585 or other format shown below.

7) Best photos are taken near or short distance from the track to show surrounding landscape.  Equipment, power, rolling stock, buildings and associated items of interest are also appreciated but be sure to document location and details. Take enough photos to define the character of the RR line. A minimum of 30 photos per page is required.

8) Take notes with each photo. It is much easier then than try to figure it out later.  We take a small note book and note GPS and direction and features. We use Steam Powered Video Railroad Atlas  http://www.spv.co.uk  books to find railroads. We also use the DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer Topo maps for each state and in some cases the Delorme Topo USA on a laptop with GPS. For most GPS we use in car Garmin StreetPilot ColorMap and handheld Garmin Etrex Summit.

9) Please look carefully at our sample pages    here   including the slide show for text and GPS format.  We want all pages to be somewhat the same format. Each photo must be clearly defined as to what it is and where it was taken.

10) Plan your page before you start. Take notes as to location, car road, GPS, direction NSEW, photo number when the photos are taken.

11) We do allow equipment, motive power, rolling stock, and buildings photos but only within the location indicated as in a rail yard. We do not want scattered photos of things we know not where. Please do not give us a bunch of photos of rolling stock and trains taken somewhere.

12) Pages that do not follow this format will not show and will be deleted.  While developing your page you can see your page even if it does not show by using the option "open another window ...." in the managers desk. Again this is about the track, surrounding scenery, general look & feel and not engines and rolling stock.

13) Copyrighted images are not good as we have no way of controlling downloads. You can put your name on the images and ask to be given credit if used as long as the name and text does not detract from the image. The images and pages are for public knowledge and this site will be turned over to an institution or national library in future years to continue for 100 years or more. Copyrighted content may be removed at our discretion.

You will need the following:

A name for the railroad and a start town and end town.
Some text description of the railroad. No ads or promotions, no html or links. You may want to use a text editor like WORD or email program, then cut/paste.
There are 3 information text boxes available and text for each photo on the slide show.
The image name of your best photo. No path, just the name like

"mybestphoto.jpg".

We allow .jpg only. You will enter the actual photos later and don't forget to load mybestphoto.jpg. Do NOT use space in photo name

my  photo.jpg

Please have many of your photos ready to load.  Look at HELP for more info on photos.  More IMPORTANT photos info  Size max limit 100kb, optimum actual size 900pix wide x 600p high but other sizes ok. If you don't have photos, please wait until you do.
